Just providing something for Laird to whine about!
As Ronald George Smith, I attended the Morgan Academy from 1947 to 1960. My sister Vivian (two years my senior) and brother Euan (two years my junior) also attended the Morgan.

You`ll have to go back and read the postings again, Ronald, and you will find I could not find Thelma`s word in the dictionary, which was not prerogative. Ah well in the true spirit of the Morgan, your apology is accepted from the lum.

I'll take your word for that, Laird! One thing I remember that we did learn at the Morgan was the necessity of looking up a dictionary when you were usure of a particular word. I think it was the Chamber's Dictionaries that we were supplied with in the English classroom. These dictionary lessons gave me a lasting love for words.

Two books that were always at hand during my working life were Chamber`s Twentieth Century Dictionary printed and published in New Delhi, and Roget`s Thesaurus printed in Great Britain (does that mean Hong Kong?) but purchased by me in Bangkok. The dictionary has certainly seen better days through its constant use.

Did you ever get around to perusing any other books, Laird - Enid Blyton maybe? Of course you would also have thumbed through the Oor Wullie and The Broons Annuals? Your admirable life-long love affair with the Chambers dictionary and the Thesaurus are definitely worth a post or two in the thread "How well the Morgan has served me". Let's see it!
