The last time I was Home Dave, the Bread was still there but I think it is now a night club. Looked a bit scruffy

Am I right in saying, you are both right, and both wrong! Surely the Bredalbane Arms was the establishment that gentlemen frequented, which, in the mid sixties, hosted the FPs in the back room for their after Saturday game revelry. The Howf was next door, well ahead of its time, in letting ladies in to partake of a small refreshment. The gentlemen would join the ladies only after 9pm, after they had quenched their thirst with about 10 pints at 1/6p per pint.

Your memory is very good Pud. Expensive beer though. At the Phoenix in the Nethergate you could get a pint of light for 1/1d as I recall then you could slip back into the Green's as long as the waitresses didn't catch the smell of beer on your breath!

The Bread was also the local for DRI and we could go on call there as the bleepers were still within range. In those days there was no objection to the doctors having a pint on duty!! Many of us also had our stag nights in that back room that Laird mentioned. I think the manager was calle Jimmy stirling- certainly it was Jimmy.

I think you are right Ian - Jimmy Stirling rings a bell with me. The Bread was where I had my first ever pub lunch.

And upstairs in the Bread was where I met Roger Moore who at that time was known as Ivanhoe, a little before The Saint.

Ahhh, the Green's! Playing shove ha'penny with a metal comb and coca cola bottles. You had to leave a dribble in the bottom of said bottles or you were expected to buy more!

The pubs mentioned are in the town centre. The Bread was round the corner from the Tech on the Conshie.

I have fond memories of time spent in the Bread. Jimmy Stirling was the owner then And Frazer Elder and Tony McGregor wer my contacts then. If it no longer exists That is a sad loss.

Frazer Elder also used to frequent The Ladywell during Jonathan Stewart's tenure.
