Expand a little Jester. The name "Bill Fleming" rings a bell but I cannot recall why -- teacher or pupil?
As Ronald George Smith, I attended the Morgan Academy from 1947 to 1960. My sister Vivian (two years my senior) and brother Euan (two years my junior) also attended the Morgan.

The Courier report does not mention he was a Morgan FP. After 2 jobs and national service, he joined DC Thomson in 1957 and remained there until his retirement 44 years later. As I said, I know little about Bill -- this information has been taken from The Courier -- but when I mention Scouting, and Dundee Scout Gang Show, perhaps you can picture him. He was 74, and his funeral is on Friday at Stobswell Parish Church (1pm) then the Crematorium (2pm).

Bill was in my year at school. He came to Morgan in 1948 from Clepington. He lived in Clepington Road (between Court Street and Arklay Street) all his days.
He has a married sister Margaret who lives in the States. She was also at Morgan entering 1a girls in 1950. He played for the 1st XI when at school and like many in these days, a regular at Dens Park. A real nice guy.

I think the Fleming family went to the same church as we did (Victoria Street), and Bill was one of the leaders of the scout troop there. I must check with my brother.

Whilst not an FP, I see from this morning`s Courier that Mr Douglas Forrest, a former assistant rector of Morgan Academy, has died aged 91. He came to Morgan in 1961 as principal teacher of the Technical Department.

Pud, I missed your post on Doug Forrest. He was a great guy. His daughter Jane ( she went to Harris) was at Queen's College with me studying Social Science.

I remember one time during the winter, 3 or 4 of us were waiting for the bus to go down to Logan's, the little coffee shop in Reform St, after school. Doug stopped his car and offered us a lift. We all piled in and thanked him profusely. He said, with a big grin, " That's alright boys, it's good to have a bit of weight in the back of the car when the roads are slippery." Yes he was a great guy.

I have just learned that 'Dusty' Miller died yesterday. He was a regular at the F.P. lunches. Both he and his late wife Margaret were faithful members and supporters of the Assoc.

I wish to report that Ronald Stewart died a few years ago. He was at the Morgan from 1942-1955.
Ronnie lived at 113 Arbroath Road and was my first little friend.
He had russet red hair. His parent's both died by the time he was eight or nine and he lived with his Grand-parents in town (top of Reform Street.) We kept in touch until about 1965. I think he was an Accountant and an Aberdeen/shire Councillor for a while. He retired through ill health to live in a village outside St Andrews [? Gauldrie ?] His wife died shortly after , and a " few years'" ago he died too. He had been a very staunch member and elder in the Church of Scotland; St. Andrew's Presbytery.

I understand Bill Findlay, former PE teacher and rugby stalwart, died last week. Perhaps someone who knew him better might pen an appropriate tribute.

David, the only Bill Findlay I remember who was a PE teacher, I believe at Morgan, was a football player in the early 60's.

Dave & Laird

That's correct but latterly I understand he coached the various rugby teams when there was no one else. I had forgotten the East Fife connection.

I have just received a text advising that Gordon Small died on Monday. Gordon was one of the first Committee members after the re-formation of the FP Association. He was a wonderful raconteur, It was a special pleasure to find yourself sitting at the same table as Gordon at the invergowrie lunches. Gordon was the main speaker at the Founder's lunch last year. I am sure we would want to pass on our sympathies to his wife also and FP, and his family. The funeral will be on Tuesday at 1:00pm in St Andrew's Church in Cowgate.

Sad news. Jester's beloved wife, Vera, died suddenly last week. Jimmy, our thoughts are with you and the family at this sad time.
