Isn't technology (and PCs in particular) a wonderful thing   - if I access the Forum on my laptop it recognises me as a member, but if I use my desktop it only registers me as a guest - and yet I never log-out. Have now logged-in again and ticked the box to stay so - we'll see

You might find you're now logged out on the laptop! I've had that when I use my phone to access the forum.

Stoorie Stuff

Postby Jester » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:46 pm

I bought a cheap Dell laser printer which turns out a great job, but the cassettes are wee and half-filled, so I tried a 'compatible' make from a well-known Jersey supplier. That is to say, a supplier in Jersey, not the Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Colour is even richer than the OEM toner... BUT... after printing almost 600 sheets on 100gsm and 120gsm paper then turning over to print on the reverse side, all I managed to produce was a stoorie mess. The toner hadn't fused to the paper! Needless to say, a stiff letter (it's typed on plywood) is on its way to Jersey seeking a refund. It is definitely the toner to blame, as I've been using the same brand and quality of paper for at least 9 years, and the job was completed successfully on my Brother 4040CN laser printer.

These days, it's almost as economical to buy a new printer each time the cartridges/ cassettes run dry. Any one want to buy 25 used HP printers, all they need are ink cartridges ;-()

I too had a Dell printer, but cartridges were rather expensive, so now have a Kodak, cartridges available from Tesco at around £10

That seems a good deal Jester. I have been buying the Combo Pack for my HP. I get a black cartridge and a Tri-color(sic) cartridge for about 24 quid (when I worked at Rank, I was paid 20 quid a week, aaaahhh. Since I print quite a lot of tri-color (sic) photo images of our Grandson, I have a wee pile of black cartridges beside the computer.

Printer Woes Part 2

Postby Jester » Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:08 am

My home PC is a Canon MP630 all-in-one which does a grand job... at least, it did until it started 'banding'. I've cleaned and deep-cleaned the inkheads several times but to no avail. Anyone have a blow-torch I could borrow? Still scans fine, but has a tendency to introduce dandruff into the dark areas. It's not stoor - the glass is crystal-clean.

I've had a couple of Canon printers and I found that after a while I had to renew the print head - not just the cartridges - rather expensive! I now have an HP all-in-one linked up to the desktop PC. I hardly use the desktop - it's a bit ancient and slow so I decided to get a Kodak wireless printer which sits in the corner of the sitting room and works from the laptop which I use all the time. Unfortunately, I can't configure my router to accept the printer so I have to carry the laptop across the sitting room and plug in the USB when I want to use it! Still, it's better than carrying it upstairs.

I have used KLM for several years now as they are the most convenient airline leaving from Edinburgh to Osaka with a change in Amsterdam. Their food is never of the highest quality but, apart from the dry bread cheese sandwich given during the first leg, is usually acceptable. However, on the last flight, the main meal was terrible, meant to be some kind of shredded steak, it looked and tasted like corned beef. I filled in their comment card, Jester would have been proud of me, and at last I got a reply which read "I sincerely regret you were disappointed with the quality of the catering on board your recent flight. Although catering does not form part of the contract we have with our passengers, and is offered on a complimentary basis, ....." And there was me after years of flying thinking I was paying for my food and drink just to find out that they are being extremely kind and serving me complimemtary food and Chivas Regal. What a lot of garbage! I must get a copy of their "contract" and try to read it, if the print is not too small!

She seems to have been too busy singing all the songs in A Hard Day's Night!

Well, I think she`s gone back to school as a pupil again, Dave, as she said she was going through her DVD collecrtion in alphabetical order. That`s fine, and I hope she enjoys every one, but how come she is watching Titanic before A Hard Days Night? As you said, HELP!
