Bill Fleming

Postby Jester » Tue Nov 30, 2010 5:01 pm

This message has been posted under Board Index -- Morgan Matters -- FPs no longer with us. For information only. At Admin's request, please reply there, not here.

"I received an e-mail from Richard with the sad news that Lunch regular Bill Fleming had passed away. I know little about Bill beyond what is in today's Courier, so will leave it to someone else to compose a fitting tribute."

Miss Kathleen L Blackwood

Postby Jester » Thu Jun 16, 2011 11:52 am

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing, this morning, of my oldest friend Kathleen Blackwood.
Kathleen helped steer me through Lower then Higher Music in the early 1950s and we have remained very good friends ever since.
I will post a proper tribute under 'Morgan Matters' in due course.

Not that I knew the gentleman, but I see from today`s Courier that Former Morgan Academy teacher John Vigrow has died during a holiday in Kent.
The Courier goes on to report that he retired in 1996, after teaching at Morgan for 30 years. An Aberdonian, he started at working at Morgan in 1966 and was promoted to principal teacher of guidance in 1970. His funeral service will be held at Barham Crematorium, Canterbury, on Tuesday, and his ashes will be scattered on Auchterhouse Hill at a later date.

Approx 2 weeks ago another Morgan teacher passed on, that was Ian Gilroy. He was at Morgan in the early 50's and was my English teacher. For those of that era, his class was at the platform end of the chapel. In addition he started the navel section of the cadets. He latterly was headmaster of Madras in St Andrews. A great guy.
Does anybody remember Ian Gilroy?

Ian Gilroy taught at Morgan right through the 50s. He became head of English after Cheesie retired, and then was promoted to Mackie Academy, I think, before finishing up as Rector of Madras. A very good teacher, and a nice guy.

Ian Gilroy

Postby Jester » Mon Oct 03, 2011 4:09 pm

Mr Gilroy attended the John Morgan lunch in September last year. The face was familiar, but it wasn't until later that the name clicked. We had a wee natter, and I told him that, although he wasn't one of my teachers, what I remembered was his smile. (He smiled!) Definitely one of the Good Guys.
