religion

I don't remember any religion being taught at the Morgan. I believe that in Catholics schools, there are quite a number of hours spent on religious education although only one will be espoused. Despite the lack of religion taught at the Morgan, I wonder how many former pupils have formed a religious conviction either during or after their stay at the Morgan. I live in Canada, next door to the right wing pseudo- religious giant, the U.S.A., where no presidential candidate could possibly be successful without stating his or her faith in God. Fortunately, the leadership of Canada or any European country would not be off limits to an atheist. Any views?

Ernie Landsman was our Religion teacher in 4th or 5th year... also English and History. In fact, at one point I never seemed to be out of his room! I sat beside ? Brewster (Christine's brother). Anybody know where they are these days, I wonder?

There was a chap Craig who was RC - he and others of his ilk had their own wee group as I remember. Also, I have a vague notion that he either escaped being in the school choir, or appeared on stage but didn't have to sing.

I don't recall having regular RE periods, but I do remember occasional ones from a range of teachers. I know that George Rollo and Stan Brook both became ministers and by coincidence officiated at funerals attended by my sister and brother-in-law very recently. George has been in Elgin for some time and Stan spent a time at Menzieshill before moving on and now is based at Callendar.

There was certainly Religious instruction in my time at Morgan Our RE teacher was Miss Stewart aka "Kipperfeet"
I am now Clerk of Session in The presbyterian Church in my town in Canada
So for Biloxi's information it is the town that " is worth the drive to"

We certainly had RI in first year, courtesy of Cheesey, whose religious lessons consisted of choosing a word in a chapter of, say Isaiah, and giving a house point to whoever found which verse the word was in.

Just an update, on my last post on this thread, I have just retired from my Clerk of Session in Knox Presbyterian Church in Acton. I am still the Image projectionist and sound control operator there. My vreligious convictions are still as strong.

I remember Religious Instruction from Ernie Landsman. On one occasion when the class seemed very disinterested, he told the person at the back of the class to start reading Kings II Ch 18, the first 3 verses then the next person and so on. All went well until verse 27 :~}).

You speak of Ernie Landsman's 'RE' classes ! Ernie used to set us reading whilst he did some marking or paper work.
I remember the particular class was droning its way through some verses when it came to my desk-neighbour[ C.G's turn]. He had the doubtful privilege of reading a list of tribal names whom the Israelites had defeated in battle. Off he went, in a monotone; "... the Amalekites, the Rechabites, the Moabites, ... THE CHEESEMITES, [sniggers all round] ... the Edomites ... and so on to the verse's conclusion.
Ernie spoke: "C.G.! Would you read that again please?"
This time one tribe had dissappeared forever from C.G's list.
Ernie spoke again. "Write these verses 100 times and ADD there are NO Cheesemites in Israel. !" [Laughter all round.]
