Hi Mike, As another FP new chum, let me welcome you aboard. I remember you from Duncan of Jordanstone when I was there. My name is George Keiller, and I was in the same year as John Johnstone, who still lives in Forfar and still keeps in touch. I hope you are enjoying your retirement and finding lots of time to paint again. My email address is in my profile if you want to get in touch.
Regards, Papa Giorgio.

Does anyone remember Frank Muir (Goerge?). He is the only art teacher I can remember. mainly because he designed his own house which was a it futuristic and never seemed to get finished. I think it was down by Craigiebank but can't remember

Was it not on the south side of Bingham Terrace? It is still standing, or at least it was the last time I past.

Sorry Ian, Cant recall Frank Muir. The Art staff were McKay, Kay and Henderson in my time, strongly pre-Raphaelite, apart from Mr Henderson who had a thing about Clydesdale horse. Bit of a worry that!

Frank Muir was a comedian, the other half of the Dennis Norden team. The art teacher who designed his own house on the south side of Bingham Terrace was Frank Henderson who was still exhibiting at the Annual Broughty Ferry Art Society during Gala week, up to his death in 2006 ??

Harry Keay had an exhibit selected as one of the most important of the Dundee Museums collection when their display went on tour to the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh and the Fleming Gallery in London.

Saw Dougal Roy in town about a year ago, his sister-in-law (also an FP) died recently.

I was introduced to Ian Turner's widow recently, a lovely woman who does an immense amount of work for the Barnhill Rock Garden.

Effie Joyce, a friend of my wife's aunt, is still going strong and at 90+ recently returned from California visiting her elder, yes elder, sister.

Harry Keay was a most inspiring art teacher and I am every grateful to him for fostering my interest in art. I still paint and get a lot of pleasure from my efforts. Wonder about some of the "art" in vogue these days though.

Did Harry Keay not have a wooden arm? If not who was the one-armed teacher? It was not Richard Kimble I am sure

Mr Keay had a withered arm - from polio I was told. It was an English teacher who had a wooden arm, with a strong leather glove. It was his left arm, and as he walked up and down the classroom he would "throw" the arm at any pupil who was doing anything he/she should not. It think he was a Mr. Smith or it may have been Stewart. Had a deadly aim with chalk also. Such behaviour would not be accepted these days!
