The House System

Postby roslin » Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:05 am

Hullo all I received the letter from the Rector about the changes that have to be made. Though I am Airlie I feel for those FPs who are Glamis. At least the letter was from the Rector and not the politically correct "Head Teacher ".

Using the Rector's logic - if they had 5 or more Depute Rectors they'd have 5 or more Houses.

Absolutely outrageous! The rector did not even have the courage to intimate which house we woul lose in his letter. Don't think thre were guidence teachers in the past but we managed 4 houses.

Glamis

Overstaffed and underworked, perchance? Or am I being cynical?
When (for my sins) I taught at St Michael's in the 1960s, there was one secretary - Joyce - a merry lass who managed to run the school single-handed. How many 'administrators' do schools need nowadays?

Hi When I was at the school in the sixties the roll was under 500. Grammar of course. Now I think twice that ?. It meant that each house was small in number. I wonder if they have overload. It must be at times very difficult for staff to be fully aware of pupil concerns. All the legal stuff now in place including human rights cannot but have had a serious effect on the workload of staff. Not to mention the volume of paperwork required.

The decision to change the House System was NOT an easy one. Life at Morgan Academy is not as we knew it in the 50s/60s.
Teaching is a WONDERFUL VOCATION, but bureaucracy is ever pervading. Loved my pupils, hated kowtowing to targets, etc. Took voluntary unemployment because I wasn't prepared to spend my time sending out meaningless, erroneous, reports to parents. Positive remarks only! Sorry, but if my son or daughter was a duffer I would want to know!
Sorry about the rant, but some present day teachers have oldfashioned values.

ps WOULD NEVER ADVOCATE THE RETURN OF THE BELT!

Actually I meant the teachers are getting swamped by red tape etc . I wonder how much time they can manage per pupil during a lesson. In another role I get really mad at requests for more and more form filling. My you I can easily put an end to it. The advantage of " In Command".
