Too much 'listening' under 'watching', so time to revive this aural topic, methinks. Jester

Tuned into The Goons at noon on Radio 7. Poor Bluebottle... the initial reward of £5000 for the answer to the Marie Celeste mystery had been whittled down to 14/9d by the time it reached him.

Don't mock 14/9d, Jester - when I was married that was almost a quarter of the week's housekeeping money!

My favourite listening is usually the Friday evening 6.30 show on radio 4, repeated Saturday 12.30. At the moment it's The Now Show, but The News Quiz is just as good.

I listen to BBC7 , the Goons, Dad's Army, Steptoe, Rumpole, Yes, Minister, and others. Dick Barton is on but I thought he was on Radio Luxemburg originally

Just go to the BBC homepage Hamish, (www.bbc.co.uk) and look under RADIO, then click on BBC7. Happy listening!

£16 a month for rent! My goodness Eric, you must have been a bit of a toff.
In the 1950s, I think our rent for a two bedroom house in Mid Craigie was less than half of that.

Dlema, you were lucky you were in "Cooncil" housing. Whenwe came to Oz we bought a 4- bedroom house and the Mortgage was $54.00 about 22 pound a month. I think we are on the wrong thread

I see that BBC7 has repeats of "Instant Sunshine" which I used to enjoy in the 80s. If you like musical humour, that's your programme. One of their wee songs which I loved was called Metamorphosis - the first line is "My budgie has changed to an orang-utang". (Yes, I kid you not!)

George Melly used to sing a song called "My canary has circles under his eyes" which I have on CD
