The restoration of the railings

Postby eastfifearabman » Fri Apr 23, 2010 11:42 pm

I used to think as a pupil about this. It consumed a lot of my thoughts, as I walked down the forfar road, or up Pitkero. I would ask myself why the walls looked the way they did, why did they have metal stumps, why had they been changed.

I was answered this before I attended Morgan, it was because Britain was at the brink of defeat, it was because everything sacrificible had to be sacrificed to go towards keeping Britain the free state it wanted to be.

£650,000 is the suggested cost of this fix.

If the powers that be spend £650,000 fixing this the generations that come will not be able to question why the walls are like that. They will never have the sparkle in their eyes that want to find out why,

I say the money could be better spent on real issues around Morgan rather than this.

Thoughts?

What do you think of the reinstated Railings and Gates at the bottom of the lawn?
A lot of hard work and Fund Raising by MAFPA was involved.
I'd love to see the railings restored - too young to have seen them insitu pre war, but what has been replaced is a testament to the affection FPs have for "The Old Lady".
(MAFPA annual subs were not used in the Restore our Railings campaign.)

it is a lot of money and it could be argued that it could be better spent however the money will be very kindly donated for that purpose and therefore it should be spent on that otherwise the donors might not have donated there are other similar reminders of railings being cut down just cross the road
