That was the time of the three day week. I worked from 8am till 9pm for three days and could include Saturday. We were cream-crackered after that lot. Not a happy time.
We had storage heating then and you could miss out on the top up heating period. Not very nice, in fact freezing when that happened.

How reliant we are on electricity and technology. Some years ago I decided not to be solely reliant on electricity as we used to get frequent cuts of power. In my wisdom I changed the electric central heating over to gas and it was only after the work had been completed that I realised that I still needed electricity to light the pilot lights, turn the fans etc. to make the system work. Clever laddie!

I presume you attended the last lunch at the Yacht Club, Ken. Sorry, I could not attend, the plane run out of fuel, but I know my seat was filled by an equally acceptable figure. Lunch report required, please.

Congratulations Ernie. You and Ann must be very proud to be great grandparents. I am still trying to sell off my youngest daughter!

Lunchtime and nae licht

Postby Jester » Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:23 pm

Laird - I, too, missed the Lunch. No plane to catch, just 10 minutes away as the Suzuki flies, but I plumb forgot! Sandra, I cheated on one occasion when our power cut was due. Living with my aunt at the time, we tootled down to the office in South Tay Street with a Brazilian couple + bairn and ran a film show in The Bijou Kinema. Not exactly sporting, I know, but we were jest providing hospitality to our foreign neighbours. Well, that's my excuse for having a clear conscience!

I echo your sentiments, Ian, to the proud great grandparents, Ernie and Ann. Tomorrow my number one son will celebrate his 25th birthday, so I have a way to go!

Whist sorting through and checking a box of LPs (remember them?) bought for a couple of quid at a recent auction I came across one titled "Simply - oops, sorry Sydney Devine - 20 golden greats" - an oxymoron if ever there was one!

Tidying up my laptop desktop. GD pup, GRet Maralyn, now residing fulltime with us, went doolally this afternoon. She has knackered my laptop AC/DC charger cable, by charging around the room. Mara is rather tall, so the looped up cable was not high enough for her to pass under. Massive panic attack for Mum. (Took 30 mins of weeping and wailing to come back to sanity.) Fortunately the external hard drive cable works, so Mum is very relieved. Ebay here we come. Please back up all your files regularly, on a hard drive. Hate to think of the time I would have had to spend on the MAFPA databases if Mara's mad moment hadn't been recoverable!

So Mara is the latest pup. Thelma, you are a glutton for punishment. One step back, Thelma, I admire your total dedication. Congratulations.

Sorry, folks, forgot that neither Ken or Jester were at the last lunch, so we were denied their blow by blow account of proceedings. There was possibly the largest turnout for many a long year including three newcomers. Alistair Birse - well known runner and basketball player, Jimmy Miller - ex 26BB and travel agent, and Alex Coupar - Forfarshire and Scotland. The company were also entertained by about 12 "volunteers" who gave a novel rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" and the "School Song" on handbells under the meticulous guidance, not to say baton, of Ron Oliver - Hawkhill Harriers & Old Steeple campanologist.

Ken, Maralyn aka Mara came to us as a 9 month old pup when Ivan went to Forfar in September. Her PW had broken her arm, so couldn't finish the PWing. Mara was a prospective brood bitch who unfortunately was diagnosed with cataracts, six weeks after she came to us, and was immediately withdrawn from GD. She's now officially ours. That unfortuntely means no more little pups for us. Fergtherescuedog, now 12 + years is very happy with her company, but wouldn't be able to cope with a pesky pup. Ivan, Pup No 7, has met his match and is going on class 13 March, in the Glasgow area. So by the end of March, fingers crossed, we'll have 6 qualified Guide Dog pics on the wall. 6 out of 7 - not bad!

Restoration job

Postby Jester » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:58 pm

As a young man I was never much good at touching up the ladies, but have now been doing jest that, scanning and restoring some 60-year-old photos of my sister-in-law, all spotty, badly cracked and torn. Umm... the photos, not the subject. The stunning but battle-scarred young lady is now looking absolutely tickety-boo. Isn't life wonderful... when computers actually work?

What was the deal Jester? Does she get to renovate your live image with a belt sander and a bucket of distemper %-:)
