What team sports are played at Morgan ?

Postby Dave Dempster » Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:50 pm

Last time I asked, I didn't get a reply.

So, when was Rugby dropped from the Phys. Ed. program? Is Football still played? Basketball, Hockey (Field, of course), Netball, Cricket, Tennis etc, etc?

I hope that rugby at the school will get going again now that Ross Clark, FPs' 1st XV prop, is the new principle of guidance.
AS mentioned on the other site I don't think the school uses the field at all, so getting rugby going again would at least mean school use again.
As for all the other sports, I assume they are played at the DISC as part of the PE certificate. Don't know about out of school hours.
We shall ask the rector at the meeting.

Doesn't anybody know? Did the media or the "Tully" do a story on the passing of rugby from Morgan. What about the quest to beat High School each year?

I(not we) had a quick chat with the rector & he assures me all sports including rugby are played at Morgan, in and out of school time (mostly at the DISC - being bussed or walked to the field it seems maybe a thing of the past. The problem seems to stem in the past to the teachers strike & now to the fact that there are not many volunteers to assist with out of school clubs.
On a positive note I understand that the FP rugby club is assisting by letting the lads doing sports coaching go to the school to coach rugby as part of their SVQ. There may also be a development officer on its way to the school & its feeder schools. The DO will I assume supervise the SVQ lads. As previously mentioned Ross Clark is to be going to the school, so this should boost things a bit more.
Of course any boy or girl interested in playing any sport is given the right direction to go & in rugby's case that is Morgan Wasps ( formerly Dundee Juniors - junior sides also available at Mayfield & Forthill)
As far as I am aware this information is correct but if not I will happily be corrected.

If Morgan still has school teams and the other schools have them as well, why is it necessary to have a Wasps Team?

Attack from as many angles as possible.
Not all primary schools have rugby so this gives another opening.
The slump to the bottom of the leagues coincided with a slump in the junior side. We now have a strong junior club which is beginning to benefit the senior club. The problem maybe retaining players - a few former juniors play down at the other place in Prem 1 - and good luck to them.
I myself played for school in the morning, the club in the afternoon and then trained or another game on Sunday - nowadays its morning or afternoons so if the school hasn't got a game the U16s U18s benefit.
School rugby is on its way back we just have to be patient.
